Should I get stained or painted cabinets?

The decision between stained and painted cabinets largely depends on your personal preference and the overall look and feel of your kitchen. Both options have their own set of advantages and disadvantages, here are some factors to consider:

Natural wood grain: Stained cabinets are a great way to showcase the natural wood grain and color of the cabinetry, making them a popular choice for traditional and rustic-style kitchens. Painted cabinets will hide the wood grain and are better for a clean and modern look.

Durability: Painted cabinets are more durable than stained cabinets. Painted finish has a protective layer on top that can withstand the wear and tear of everyday use better than stain.

Maintenance: Painted cabinets are more durable, but they do show scratches more easily. Stained cabinets are less likely to show scratches and are easier to touch up if they do get damaged.

Resale value: Both options can have a positive impact on the resale value of a property. However, natural wood finishes are often considered more timeless, and may be a safer option if you're planning to sell in the future.

Color options: Painted cabinets can come in a wide variety of colors, while stained cabinets are usually limited to a few different shades.

Cost: Painted cabinets may be more expensive than stained cabinets due to the additional work required in preparing the surface and the extra coatings.

Ultimately, it comes down to your personal style and design preference as well as how much maintenance you're willing to do in the future. Keep in mind, If you are leaning toward a more contemporary or modern look, painted cabinets may be the better choice, while if you prefer a more traditional or rustic style, stained cabinets may be the way to go.
